Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a happy and peaceful winter holiday season and that 2024 is off to a great start.
I am honored to assume the Chair of the Board of Directors position to start this year. I am truly grateful to those who have held this role recently, particularly to Reggie Martin who served well beyond the expected tenure of the position and helped lead the organization through the Covid-19 pandemic and our separation from Houston First. Thank you to Reggie, the 2023 Board of Directors, and the outgoing Executive Committee of HHA for positioning the organization for future success.
As we look to 2023, HHA has much to be excited about. I hope all of you enjoyed playing host to the 100,000+ guests who visited our city this past week for the College Football Playoff National Championship game on January 8. I can’t think of a better way to start the year than to have our city in the national sports media spotlight once again. Speaking of that, congratulations to our fellow HHA members, the playoff-bound Houston Texans and let’s hope for a long run to a Super Bowl championship.
At the board level, we are working to further our mission by promoting, connecting, and energizing the hospitality and tourism businesses within our city. We are welcoming in a new Board of Directors who are all passionate about the organization, the city, and what lies ahead.
We will be kicking off 2024 with a member mixer taking place at Texas Southern University on February 19th. We will celebrate Black History Month and welcome a special guest list to include newly elected officials within the city. I urge all of you to not miss this opportunity to engage your elected officials and network with the Board of Directors and other members.
